“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise.
The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”
Hello there! My name is Sonya, and I’m a writer, blogger, and dilettante photographer/artist/ukulele player. (I wear a lot of hats, as they say.)
I blog about life as a full-time writer/zinester, book reviews, horror, personal inspiration, food, photography—anything that strikes my fancy and that I think might resonate with others. This blog is an amalgamation of old-school personal blogs and new-school lifestyle blogs, here to give you a look at who I am, how I live, and what I love, along with letting you learn from my suggestions, experiences, and mistakes.
I also specialize in personal, poetry/literary, and mini zines, including What to Expect When You’re Expecting Succulents: A Mini Guide to Growing Succulents and It’s Brittany, Bitch: Out-of-Context Quotes + Wisdom from Brittany S. Pierce (a Glee fanzine). My main zine is Whatsername, a personal zine about growing up, personal evolution, self-care, (pop) punk, survival, and finding comfort.
In addition to writing my own zines, I founded and edit Spill Yr Guts Horror Zine.
Being the antisocial child I was (and the adult I still am, let’s be honest), I learned to read by myself early on, and in time I learned to write, as well—and I haven’t stopped doing either very much since then.
In early middle school, I wrote a short story about a haunted bowling alley. Later on, I started blogging on Livejournal. In high school, I began to enter writing competitions. In 2013, I received my Bachelor of Arts in English; I’d attended college with the intention of graduating as a secondary educator but realized my senior year that it wasn’t what I really wanted. My final semester was focused on writing courses, and it was the best semester of my college experience.
Writing has always been a constant in my life in some way, and I’m finally living my life goal of writing full time.
My writing has most recently appeared in I Want You to See This Before I Leave and Wallpaper Magazine.
I released my first poetry chapbook, Reflections in a Dirty Mirror, in October 2015. It is available via the shop page.
I am currently working on my first novel, Ax Wound.
